Stockholm is full of amazing places to visit, whether you are a tourist or a local. This time, I, Daniella, am sharing three of my favorite places to visit in and around the capital. Here are my top tips!
Daniella's Stockholm Tips
Ulriksdal Palace – a historical gem
Ulriksdal Palace, dating back to the 17th century, has been a favorite spot of many Swedish kings and Queen Christina. Despite its royal heritage, the palace is just a short trip from centre Stockholm, surrounded by a beautiful park that makes it the perfect destination for an outing.
In addition to exploring the magnificent halls and admiring the beautiful art and period furniture, you can visit the gardens at Ulriksdal Palace. There is a wide variety of locally grown flowers and plants, and during the summer, you can pick your own flowers and vegetables. Walking around this historic palace is like traveling back in time—an experience I highly recommend!
The Haga Ocean Butterfly House – a tropical oasis
If you want to experience something completely different, the Haga Ocean Butterfly House is a must-see! Just a short bus ride from centre Stockholm, you can step into a tropical setting filled with exotic butterflies, colorful fish, and impressive sharks.
The humid, warm climate may come as a shock at first, but you’ll soon find yourself swept up in the magical atmosphere. Butterflies flutter freely and may even land on your arm! Kids usually love looking for “Nemo and Dory” in the aquariums, and spending a few moments by the shark tanks is a thrilling experience. Before you leave, don’t miss a stop at the gift shop for a souvenir or enjoy a coffee break in the cosy café.
The Copper Tents in Haga Park – Coffee and pastries with a royal view
While you’re in Haga, take the opportunity to take a short walk to the iconic Koppartälten. These unique buildings now house a cosy café and a restaurant, perfect for a break after your visit to the Butterfly House. Here you can enjoy a delicious lunch or afternoon coffee in a historic setting.
If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of Crown Princess Victoria walking her dog. Haga Palace, where the Crown Princess’s family lives, is just a stone’s throw away, and the park itself is a wonderful place for a relaxing stroll.
Welcome to Stockholm!
Whether you are interested in history, nature, or exotic animals, there's something for everyone in Stockholm. I hope my tips inspire you to explore these amazing places. Have a great trip!
